Cleo Black and White

That's the problem when you simply desaturize color photos — you end up with gray slush. Next time, please shoot them in b&w, and you'll instantly see the difference. Another method that yields great results is infrared photography. Really expensive equipment, but the results are astonishing.

being that you take the pictures in colour and convert to grey scale in photoshop ( unless you have set the camera to grey scale from the start, which i think is very unlikely) why not give us the colour version as well as the black and white in the same photo set. That way we can choose if we want to to look at the colour version (which would have worked better) or the rather grey version we see here??????

not so much black & white, more like grey & grey. The tonal value of the sand and Cleo is almost identical so we just get a big mass of grey. the pictures only really start to work when you put Cleo up against the rock face where the tonal value has enough difference to pull Cleo out from her surroundings.
